What is
a needs analysis? When would you use one? |
A needs
analysis is a way of finding out
what our learners need to
know and how they
need to use English.
Younger learners probably do not have specific needs but older learners are often very specific and have special needs for English. It is with them that we would most often use a needs analysis. |
Give an
example of a setting-specific learner need. |
Examples
are the need to use English:
at work for higher education study to teach the language (you!) to travel and engage with English speakers for emigration to an English-speaking environment |
Give an
example of a skills learner need. |
Some learners may need to
write in accurate
English, some may only need to
read.
For some learners, speaking and understanding are all that is required. |
Give an
example of a register need. |
Some learners have to use English in
very specific
registers such as:
air traffic tourism the hospitality industry the oil industry the military |
If we ask
questions such as: Do you like working in groups? Do you like using a coursebook? What are we trying to find out? Give one more example question. |
We are
aiming to discover the learners'
learning preference.
Other examples of questions are: Do you enjoy speaking activities? Do you like to have homework? Do you like to work with computers and video? |
That's the end.How did you do? |
Now you can go on. Select the revision section you want to do from this menu.
