What is a
PPP
approach to lesson design? |
PPP stands for:
Presentation: when the new language or skill is identified and explained / elicited Practice: where the new language or skill is carefully practised in a controlled way to make sure everyone has it right Production: where the learners can use the new language or skill in a freer, more personal way |
What is a
TTT approach to lesson
design? |
TTT stands for:
Test: setting tasks and doing activities to see how much the learners can already do and raise their awareness of what they need to do better Teach: where the needs from the first part of the lesson are addressed Test (again): to see how much has been learned and to show the learners what they have accomplished and where they have improved |
If the teacher
stops and claps her hands, saying Right! That was excellent. Now ... what is happening? |
This signals a
transition or
framing act.
The teacher wants to stop one activity and re-focus the learners on the next task or activity. |
The teacher
starts the lesson by saying: Here's a postcard from my brother who has moved to the USA. Read it and decide if he is happy with everything or has some problems. What is the purpose of this? |
The teacher is
introducing the topic of the lesson through
a short reading text
and trying to make it
engaging because it is personal and gives the
class a reason for reading.
