Explain the difference between a product task and a process
activity. How does this affect giving feedback? |
A product task is one in which
what the learners produce
is very important.
Feedback, both from the learners and from the teacher has to be quite thorough. A process activity is one in which it is doing the task which is important, not its outcome. What the learners actually produce has to be valued in some way to maintain motivation and commitment but it needn't be judged on a right/wrong/not bad basis so feedback does not need to be detailed. |
What three
things do learners want to know from the feedback they get? How do you give them the data? |
Learners want to know:
How did I do? You can tell learners this by: Projecting the right answers Giving out a handout of the right answers Giving the right answers to half the class and getting the other half to elicit them How can I improve? You must be ready with advice, for example: You need more pronunciation practice. We need to look at the uses of these tenses again. Here are some ways of getting more listening practice ... What are the key issues? The teacher needs to focus on the difficult problems and let the easy answers go by without wasting time. To do this, you need to monitor carefully during the task to focus on the key points only. |
That's the end.How did you do? |
